About R.W.R McDonald: Rob is an award-winning author, who grew up in the small town of Balclutha, New Zealand. In South Otago, he grew up on a sheep and venison farm. McDonald is a Kiwi and Queer dad who is currently living in Melbourne, Australia. He lives there with his rainbow family which includes his two daughters, HarryCat and Stevie Nicks the chicken!
His debut novel The Nancys was released in 2019 and follows 11-year-old Tippy Chan, who creates a team with her Uncle and his boyfriend. Together the form ‘The Nancys’ to solve the murder mystery in Riverstone. McDonald has kept his New Zealand ties in the book by modelling Riverstone off Balclutha. He has won a number of awards with his debut novel, The Nancys. He won Best First Novel in the 2020 Ngaio Marsh Awards, and was a finalist for the Best Novel category. The Nancys was also shortlisted for Best First Novel in the 2020 Ned Kelly Awards, and was Highly Commended for an Unpublished Manuscript in the 2017 Victorian Premier’s Literary Awards.
