BIO

R.W.R. McDonald (Rob) is an award-winning Kiwi author, living in Melbourne, with his two daughters and one HarryCat. Author of the award-winning Nancys series, The Nancys and Nancy Business, published by Allen and Unwin, and a contributor to crime anthology, Dark Deeds Down Under edited by Craig Sisterson, published by ClanDestine Press. Rob is also a creative writing tutor and host of Queer Writes Sessions (QWS) Podcast. Rob’s first picture book, Happy Millionth Birthday, was published in September 2023 by Larrikin House.

Nancys Series

The Nancys, was published in 2019.  The Nancys won Best First Novel in the 2020 Ngaio Marsh Awards, as well as being a finalist in the Best Novel category. It was shortlisted for Best First Novel in the 2020 Ned Kelly Awards, and Highly Commended for an Unpublished Manuscript in the 2017 Victorian Premier’s Literary Awards.

Rob’s second novel, Nancy Business, a sequel to The Nancys, was published in June 2021. Nancy Business was a finalist for Best Novel in the 2022 Ngaio Marsh Awards. 

Nancys Undercover, a short story featuring the Nancys, is part of the Dark Deeds Down Under crime fiction anthology, published by Clan Destine Press June 2022.

TUTORING

Rob also teaches Courses and writing mentoring/tutoring. This year Rob is part of the KYD Mentors Program July – November 2024. In the past has worked with Writing NSW and Faber Writing Academy. Rob also offers an individual Manuscript Assessment Service.

QWS PODCAST

Rob is co-founder of Queer Writes Sessions (QWS), in partnership with Blarney Books & Art in Port Fairy. QWS is a project to promote LGBTIQA+ identifying writers and their works by providing additional platform opportunities.

One such platform is QWS Podcast, a monthly Words & Nerds spin off series, which Rob co-hosts with Jonathan Butler.
